TAX CLEARANCE LETTER

A Tax Clearance Letter is an official document issued by the Department of Revenue (DOR) that certifies that a corporate entity (not LLC or individual) has no outstanding tax liability for all periods. It confirms that all tax returns have been filed, and all applicable taxes have been paid. A Tax Clearance Letter is often requested by the taxpayer for reinstatement of a business with the Secretary of State Office. To obtain a Tax Clearance Letter, the business must already have an existing corporate tax account and be current on all tax returns and payments.

A Tax Clearance Letter can only be requested from DOR through an existing corporate account on TAP or through mail by an authorized representative. The mailing address is DOR Corporate Department, P.O. Box 1033 Jackson, MS 39215-1033.

A Certificate of Good Standing indicates that a company is legally authorized to conduct business in the state and is provided by the Secretary of State, not the DOR. For information about a Certificate of Good Standing, contact the Mississippi Secretary of State at 601-359-1633 or visit www.sos.ms.gov.
