The Mississippi Department of Revenue enrolls tax liens for unpaid tax debts online on the State Tax Lien Registry. Tax liens are no longer recorded with Circuit Clerks.
A tax lien recorded on the State Tax Lien Registry covers all property in Mississippi. To avoid having a tax lien filed against your property, send the Department of Revenue full payment before the due date as set forth in your Assessment Notice.

House Bill 787, as passed by the Mississippi Legislature, removes the portion of the tax levy that taxed the delivery of tangible personal property within the municipality as of April 24, 2014.
Senate Bill 2024, as passed by the Mississippi Legislature, requires taxpayers to pay quarterly estimated payments and removes the requirement to file quarterly returns effective January 1, 2014.

GULF OPPORTUNITY ZONE ACT OF 2005 (GO Zone)
Congress recently provided additional tax relief to those taxpayers affected by Hurricane Katrina. Below are some of the major tax relief portions of the bill and the Mississippi treatment of these items based on current Mississippi statutes.
Mississippi's Tax Treatment of Provisions of KATRINA EMERGENCY TAX RELIEF ACT OF 2005 (KETRA)
KETRA extends filing deadlines until February 28, 2006 for income tax returns and payments due on or after August 28, 2005. This also includes estimated payments for individual and corporate income taxpayers. This does not apply to withholding tax deposits. Mississippi will follow federal extensions granted for those directly affected by Hurricane Katrina who cannot meet their filing and/or paying obligations.
