The Sales Tax Holiday, often referred to as Tax Free Weekend, will start 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, and go through midnight Sunday, July 13, 2025. This means that sales tax is not due on eligible clothing, footwear or school supplies if the sales price of a single item is less than $100.

THIRD-PARTY BOOKING COMPANIES AND COLLECTION OF SALES TAX ON HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS
Senate Bill 2805, passed during the 2025 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature, clarifies the definition of the term “hotel” to include entities facilitating, arranging or brokering transient guest transactions including third-party entities that facilitate rentals of hotel accommodations.

REDUCED SALES TAX ON GROCERIES BEGINS JULY 1
The Mississippi Department of Revenue (MDOR) is notifying retail businesses of the upcoming reduced sales tax rate on groceries so they can adjust their systems appropriately. Beginning July 1, the sales tax due on groceries will decrease from 7% to 5%.
“The decrease is part of House Bill 1 that passed during this year’s Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature,” said MDOR Commissioner Chris Graham. “We are excited to be able to administer this reduction to help provide relief on the cost of groceries to Mississippi families.”

CLINTON, Miss. (April 7, 2025) – The Mississippi Department of Revenue (MDOR), its Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) division, and the Mississippi Department of Mental Health (MDMH) are joining together in April to provide information and resources for Alcohol Awareness Month.
“This is an important mission due to the high number of reported alcohol-related deaths and health-related issues – all of which are preventable,” said Kellye Rhodes, Associate Commissioner of the MDOR. “As the state’s wholesale distributor and enforcement agency of alcoholic beverages, it is important that we help spread awareness, share resources, and increase the public’s knowledge about the risks and adverse effects that alcohol misuse can have on our health, families, and communities.”
