Statement of Account
The Mississippi Department of Revenue completed Rollout 2 of its new tax management (computer) system October 1, 2012. Additional taxes now included in this system are Individual Income Tax, Withholding Tax, and Fiduciary Income tax.
One of the advantages of the new system is improved billing capability for outstanding tax debts. Taxpayers that owe the state back taxes receive a monthly billing notice, Statement of Account, that is similar to a credit card billing. Beginning October 23, 2012, the Statement of Account is being sent to Individual Income taxpayers for the first time.
The billings (Statement of Account) are for amounts previously assessed--- but not paid by the taxpayer.
Because this billing statement is new and different, and because some of the debt has been due for some time, we anticipate that there may be questions from the public. To help answer many of those questions, taxpayers may now take advantage of another new feature of this system: research tax information online.
Review Tax Account and Filing History OnlineGo to “TAP”or Taxpayer Access Point. To register, the Individual Income taxpayer needs the Social Security Number and the State’s Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) from the last return filed with Mississippi. If a joint return, use the primary taxpayer’s SSN and AGI. |
