DOR-Tax Auditor/Accountant I
DOR-Tax Auditor/Accountants perform professional accounting/auditing work with responsibilities that may include:
(1) auditing taxpayer accounting records to determine if the taxpayer is complying with the various taxing statutes of the State of Mississippi. This includes coordination and management of taxpayer audits, assessment of volume and type of tangible evidence required to determine taxpayers' tax obligations, compilation of an audit report, and audit resolution; (2) monitoring gaming casinos' compliance with the Department of Revenue's Minimum Standards of Internal Accounting Controls for Gaming Establishments in Mississippi; and/or (3) performing administrative functions such as developing and modifying complex accounting systems, maintaining complex ledgers, controls and balances; preparing fiscal statements and analyses; depositing, accounting, and diverting of tax revenue collections; and administering employees' compensation and benefits plans.
The Department of Revenue has DOR-Tax Auditor/Accountant positions located in 8 regional offices throughout the State. There is also a Foreign Audit Bureau which is responsible for auditing corporate income and franchise tax accounts of companies not headquartered in Mississippi. DOR-Tax Auditor/Accountants in these positions are based out of the central office, but travel the country performing audits. Additional compensation is received for the extensive travel and there is reimbursement of approved travel expenses.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college or university in Accounting or Accounting/Data Processing. A copy of your official transcript is required. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted. For other majors, there are 24 required hours in specific accounting courses.

DOR-Revenue Officer I
This work involves responsibility for a territory in which Revenue Officers monitor business activity by registering new taxpayers, educating taxpayers in applicable taxes and related forms, answering inquiries, and collecting delinquent taxes.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or related field.
Required Education and Experience in absence of preferred education
Graduation from a four-year high school or equivalent (GED) and four years of directly related experience.
